Puma Venture Capital was co-founded by Amit Hazan and Dr. Vipul Patel in 2023.

We seek to leverage our surgeon venture partners to invest in all aspects of the digital surgery ecosystem that can accelerate the future of minimally invasive care, including robotics, diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital ecosystems, to drive improved patient outcomes and lower costs for all aspects of the healthcare system.

We like to say that our venture firm is powered by surgeons, and indeed our surgeon venture partners, now numbering more than 20 (and growing), span the most relevant specialties within surgery and are all key opinion leaders in their respective fields. We believe their collective wisdom, deep relationships and access, and entrepreneurial spirit will continue to serve as a great asset for our portfolio companies in every stage of their life cycle, from prototype design and discovery, pre-clinical development, evaluation of user needs, verification and validation, and clinical trials to FDA approval pathways and early commercial traction.

Complementing our surgeon venture partners is a highly experienced investment team with decades of detailed analytical work and deep relationships in this space, who provide our portfolio companies with deeper understanding of market opportunities and strategies around product/market fit, workforce expansion, partnerships, reimbursement, KPI focus and progression, and optimal exit strategies.

We apply our strengths and abilities to focus on transformational disruptors within the digital and robotic MIS surgery ecosystem with a focus on several categories including the following:

  • Unique Robotic Platforms. Unique business models that can drive incremental adoption of robotics across new procedure categories, driving improved patient outcomes.

  • Novel Instrumentation. Novel digital medical devices that are incremental to current MIS procedure offerings and improve patient care.

  • New Imaging and Vision Modalities. Vision enhancements to computerized surgery that drive improved surgeon capabilities, expand robotic surgery markets, and improve patient outcomes.

  • Precision Diagnostics. Business models driving earlier disease detection and therapeutic activation.

  • Focal Therapeutics. Precision focal therapeutics opportunities that can enable and expand minimally invasive surgeries.

  • AI Analytics / Big Data. Digital tools that allow for improved patient outcomes and lower costs across the minimally invasive care continuum.

  • Digital OR and Network Capabilities. Digital tools that allow for improved patient outcomes and lower costs across the minimally invasive care continuum.
